Both certifications are based on the SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (SHRM BASK®), which defines the competencies and knowledge areas essential for HR success.

Behavioral Competencies (9 competencies in 3 clusters)
1. Leadership: Leadership & Navigation, Ethical Practice, Inclusion & Diversity.
2. Interpersonal: Relationship Management, Communication, Global Mindset.
3. Business: Business Acumen, Consultation, Analytical Aptitude.
Technical Expertise (15 functional areas in 3 domains)
1. People: HR Strategy, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, etc.

Eligibility Requirements
SHRM-CP
1. Bachelor’s degree in HR + 1 years’ experience
2. Bachelor’s degree in non-HR + 2 years’ experience
3. Master’s degree in HR + currently in role
4. Master’s degree in non-HR + 1 years’ experience
SHRM-SCP
1. Bachelor’s degree in HR + 4 years’ experience
2. Bachelor’s degree in non-HR + 5 years’ experience
3. Master’s degree in HR + 3 years’ experience
4. Master’s degree in non-HR + 4 years’ experience
